I first discovered these naughty little treasures several Christmases ago. My friends Jamie and Jolana introduced them to me.
I'm forever indebted.
Wait until you try one...you'll see what I mean.
The recipe is so simple. You only need three ingredients: one package of Oreo cookies, a package of cream cheese, and chocolate "almond bark".
First you process the cookies in a food processor until finely crumbed.
Then mix the softened cream cheese and cookie crumbs together.
Roll them into teaspoon-sized balls.
(I realize this photo looks moderately disgusting.
Just roll with me here...)
For the record, chocolate "almond bark" is a terribly
unnatural non-chocolate substance.
Seriously. What is this stuff?
Never mind all that.
These bon bons are good.
While you're rolling the balls, melt the "chocolate"
in a saucepan over super-low heat.
And just go ahead and imagine yourself doing a swan dive off the side
of the saucepan into the chocolate and swimming around for a while.
We could all use that sort of therapy this time of year.
Throw in a couple of the Oreo/cream cheese balls.
I like to use two spoons to help coat the balls with the chocolate.
Transfer the coated balls to a wax or parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
Now let's talk about this photo for a second.
I am a patience-challenged woman.
What little patience I have is funneled entirely toward my children.
In other words, you can make your bon bons much prettier than these if you patiently allow some of the chocolate to drain off the spoon before you place the bon bon on the baking sheet.
I was racing the naptime clock.
They still tasted amazing.
Oreo Bon Bons
Makes about 7 dozen, depending on how much you snitch
1 16.6-ounce package regular Oreo cookies
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 24-ounce package chocolate Almond Bark
Process the cookies, in batches, in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade until the crumbs are very fine. (Work in batches.)
In a large bowl, mix together the cookie crumbs and the softened cream cheese (you'll likely have to use your hands to get it well-mixed).
Melt the almond bark over very low heat in a saucepan, stirring often.
While chocolate is melting, roll Oreo/cream cheese mixture into teaspoon-sized balls.
Coat cookie balls in the melted chocolate and transfer to a wax or parchment paper-lined baking sheet to harden.

Wondering if you could melt chocolate chips (bittersweet, of course), thin with half & half or cream and get the same results instead of using the bark? I've never heard of these -- they do sound good. Dear me, there go my hips again!
I'm late posting this, but thought I'd mention a super-yummy substitution. I used mint Oreos for these and it was divine! I used a darker chocolate chip for the chocolate coating (unthinned, it didn't need it) and then melted some mint chips and drizzled it over the top. Oh, my goodness! So good!
